This piece was made in a time when I was learning how to work on self-love after a rocky relationship. My past relationships were not as great as I made them out to be; being a hopeless romantic I always romanticized all the flaws my partners had. I like to make art that cannot really be deciphered unless the viewer knew me on a deeper note as my past lovers did. Each item or object painted with gouache onto this Bristol board depicts something all of my past significant others had in common. The repetitive hearts in the background show my pattern in picking partners who seem familiar to one another. The black and white holes signify a void that I was trying to fill until I learned to love myself.
